Gender Equality in Science: What is to be done?
Data supports that
• Mandating policies is the most important aspect of achieving gender equality in “Science and Technology”.
• We cannot wait until all social structure and the norms to be changed by themselves, and it rarely happens, if
at all, it takes a very long time.
• By age 6, children’s notion of understating the social norms became fixed! It may even be too late after 6
years of age.
• Gender equality must be addressed through out the life-course and in all aspects of life.
• We have to break the vicious circle; by actively contributing for change and diversity,
• policy changes must be put in action by States,
• women scientists must be aware of their own bias against themselves,
• women scientists must establish networking and initiates awareness for the gender gap in Science,
• we do not want affirmative action, we want the obstacles to be abolished,
• we do not want to behave “like” or “turn into” men to excel in our science, we want to be ourselves, as
we are.. as women and reach to 50 % in all of the disciplines of Science;
• since it is the just thing to do.
