and responding to crisis situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic
• The importance of science, technology and innovation (STI) for human progress

• The importance of Open Science for fulfilling the human right to science and
leaving no one behind with regard to access to science and its benefits
• The potential of Open Science in democratizing knowledge and reducing STI
inequalities between and within countries
• The need for respect of cultural diversity and the diversity of knowledge holders
and sources of knowledge, including indigenous knowledge and citizen science
