2015 for the discovery of artemisinin, a drug that is now the

top treatment for malaria.

• Since 2000, the WHO has promoted artemisinin as the

first-choice anti-malarial drug worldwide.

• 2000 and 2015, malaria mortality rates among risk groups

worldwide fell by 60 %,

• and that of children under five years of age decreased by 65 %.
